Introductions
Principal’s Report
  • Enrollment is at 375 students this year.
  • Large kindergarten class in one room that is being co-taught by Jaime Congdon and Amber Winkler.
  • School lunches working towards compliance with National standards.  LOTS of kids in the school receiving free and reduced lunch.  Possibly putting together backpacks for kids to take home on Fridays so they have food for the weekend.
  • New Tech hired—Ross Dankers.  Because of increased enrollment, budget allows for some more staff.  District is building up towards staffing new classrooms when they are built.  The new technology position will allow teachers additional time to meet together with Casey for planning and goal setting in each grade level.
  • New assessments for the year.  No longer using MAP or DIBELS.  New computer based ISIP reading and STAR math assessments.
  • New Hedges logo in use.  Will need to get that to Gold Rush to be used on new Hedges gear.
  • New wood chips were purchased and spread on the playground over the summer.  Funding for this came from the activity fund as well as from Smith’s Earn and Learn program.
  • Hedges will be participating in the Toyota truck raffle.  Casey has secured 400 tickets.  Each ticket is $10 and we receive 80% of the sale.  Considering doing a pre-order mail out similar to last year.  Will look into details with Eden Franchi.  Ideas for selling tickets?  Possible Facebook groups.  Also, Merisa Murray has agreed to sell them at Parent Info night Thursday 20th.  Raffle will be announced at the cross-town basketball game February 21.
  • Olweus Bully program kick-off in November.  Hope to purchase wristbands for all kids.
  • New wireless internet throughout school.  Most of the technology wish list from the previous year has been purchased.  Thanks to the Apgar family for the iPads!

Box Tops
·         Still collecting them.  Amy will continue to count.
Smith’s Earn and Learn
·         Need the code to encourage parents to re-enroll.  Will look into having that available for Info night or on next newsletter.

Yearbook
·         Dani Burtsfield will head up again.
Fundraiser Ideas
·         Replace traditional Fall Festival with Harvest Bazaar.  Charge local craftsman/artists/vendors for space.  Have small entrance fee.  Set up festival games for children.  Looking into date for Saturday in November.  Will have separate meeting to plan.
·         Hoping to avoid door to door selling.  With so many families struggling, doesn’t seem right to do.
·         Possible Zumbathon again?
Phone Book
·         Ask Karen Eldredge to do again.
Hedges Gear
·         Stephanie Milner doing again.  Will hopefully make available at various events.
